HBC Fall Update 2016

Hi Church,

As we headed into the fall season, we wanted take a moment to provide you with a brief update and a calendar of upcoming events for the next few months.

“King Jesus” Sermon Series Continues!
A few weeks ago, we resumed our sermon series through the Gospel of Matthew. The second half of our journey through this Gospel will take us all the way through November as we continue to preach chapter-by-chapter. This Sunday, Pastor Mark will be speaking on “How (Not) To Follow Jesus” from Matthew 19. Please pray for transformation as we continue to look at Jesus (2 Cor. 3:18).

CryOut Simulcast Tonight!
The CryOut Prayer Simulcast will be this evening in the gym starting with light refreshments at 5:30. Join other HBC ladies for the REACH-sponsored event. For all the latest happenings with REACH, click here.

Family Meeting This Sunday Evening
We have a family meeting this Sunday, September 25, at 5pm. We will be presenting our proposal to join the Sojourn Network and explaining the “why,” “what” and “how” behind that proposal. We ask all able members of our church family to be there, as this will help you give an informed vote on October 9.

Our ongoing weekly ministries will continue this fall.

Adult Prayer Meeting, Wednesdays in the HLC, 6:00-7:15
Heritage Kids Mid-Week, most Wednesdays, 6:00-7:15.

Build-A-Bed - Saturday, October 1
Next Saturday, several of our Gospel Community Groups will be putting 10 beds together and delivering them to needy children and families in our community. A huge thanks to Tom Pope and his team for all of their work in initiating and preparing for this project and a big “thank-you” to our community groups for eagerly engaging in this mission of compassion. Pray for fruit as we love these families and speak the gospel to them.

Fundraising Concert for Liana Saffel - October 7

The HBC Missions Team will be hosting a fundrasier for Liana Saffel as she prepares for ministry with Wycliffe Bible Translators. More information about that event is avaiable here

Lord’s Supper and Sojourn Network Vote - October 9
We will have our next Lord’s Supper gathering on Sunday, October 9. (Please note this is the 2nd Sunday of the month and not the normal 1st Sunday Lord’s Supper rhythm). For those members who will be traveling for Fall Break, an absentee ballot will be made available for you to complete online on October 9. FYI, our next Sunday morning Lord’s Supper will be on the next 5th Sunday, October 30.

Two Upcoming “Barnabas” Trips!
Our Barnabas Fund is a designated fund used to help offset costs for members of our church to visit our missionaries. Two such trips will be taking place this Fall. First, Pastor Keith will be traveling to visit our longtime missionaries, David and Sandy App, in Mexico from October 5-11. Second, our sisters, Chris Houston and Elizabeth Byrne, will be traveling to Ireland in early November to help the Emadis with their Thanksgiving outreach. Please pray for fruit from both of these trips.

Conferences and Retreats
Please pray for your pastors as we take part in a few strategic events this fall.

Pastor Keith will be taking part in a Pastors Conference in New Jersey from October 17-22. Pray for fruit as he interacts with pastors and updates churches on missions efforts.

Pastor Ted will be speaking at the Sojourn Leaders Summit on theme “Plant, Grow, & Transfer: Lessons From 4 Decades of Planting.” Pastor Jonathan and Pastor Mark will also be attending this Summit from October 22-24.

The Pastors have tentatively planned our quarterly strategic retreat for November 8.

Pastor Ted and Pastor Keith will be participating in the inaugural founding conference for the Reformed Baptist Network from November 15-17.

Church-Wide Fellowship Meal - October 23
We have tentatively planned our next church-wide fellowship meal for Sunday, October 23 immediately following the morning service. More details to come.

Trunk-or-Treat Outreach to Somali Community - October 29
We are drawing up plans to work with Matt Shown and the Owensboro Refugee Center to minister to our Somali population with a “Trunk-or-Treat” event on October 29. We will be asking some of our Gospel Community Groups to be involved in this outreach. More details to come.

Annual Budget Meeting - November 20 at 5pm
Please pray for our finance team as they prepare (with input from our pastors and deacons) the 2017 budget. Our current plan is to submit the budget to the church on November 6, two weeks ahead of our annual meeting.
