New Sermon Series and 2012 Disciple U
HBC's Sunday morning sermons series is currently First Things First: A Sermon Series on Genesis 1-11. Our pastors are dealing topically within the first eleven chapters of Genesis on the subjects of Creation, Sabbath, Image, Marriage, Sin, Death, Judgment, Redemption and Common Grace.
Also remember to check out the 2012 Disciple U electives HERE.
Two of the courses offered are:
God's Good Promises Unfailing: The book of Joshua | Pastor Keith Maddy
Here with be, by God's grace, a stirring class, distinctly Christ centered with his well known predecessor, Joshua, whose name means "the LORD is salvation"
It is here we will find the repeated encouraging words from God's lips, Be strong and courageous, something we all want be and do in our daily lives. But how can this be? It will come as always by being gripped by our God who is the only unfailing promise keeper for his people. With Joshua we will cross the Jordan River, find a Gentile convert
and friend in Rahab, see Jericho fall, along with Ai and Achan. God will fight for his people in a string of striking military victories. With that we will experience the Gibeonite deception, and eventually observe the conquered territory divided up. Our goal will be to stand with all God's true people as Joshua declared in the last chapter of the book, And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
With God's help, the class will be intentionally practical, not only changing the way you think, but also meeting you where you live.
The Drama of Redemption: The Gospel Story from Genesis to Revelation | Pastor Ted Christman & Tim Hoak
The drama of redemption may be thought of as having two acts: Act 1 (OT) Preparation and Act 2 (NT) Fulfillment. The first is about promises made and the second is about promises kept. What might be more helpful, however, is coming to see the Bible as one book with one story line (the person and work of Jesus Christ) in 66 chapters. From this perspective, the whole Bible from Genesis 3:15 through Revelation 22 is gospel!
This eighteen week course team-taught by Pastor Ted and Tim Hoak will help you see the structure and unity of Scripture. It will help you "put the Bible together". More importantly, it will help you read and understand the Word of God the way Jesus read and understood the Word of God--namely, as a book primarily about himself. To two of his disciples he said, "Everything written about me in the Law of Moses, and the prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled" (Luke 24:44). In verse 27 of that same chapter it says, "And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself". Our goal is not to learn how to see Jesus in every text but rather how every text relates to Jesus.
